No such thing as British design
Today we are talking about a city that is famous for the different culture that merge into a falò’s creativity.
It's the London Design festival this week, and the capital is celebrating its creativity.
But if someone have been reading the International Herald Tribune or watching the tv in a peculiar way BBC recently, it’s evident might wonder if there was much reason for happiness.
Last month, design critic and former head of the Design Museum, Alice Rawsthorn, suggested that - at least in some respects - British design isn't what it used to be.
Then Philippe Starck pops on our TV screens in a reality show called Design for Life, with a brief to "save British design".
There's just one problem: if there's one thing that the London Design festival repeatedly demonstrates, it's that there is no such thing as British design.
The London Design festival proves that the best design breaks down international borders – that's what makes the city's cultural scene unique.
One of the showpieces of this year's festival is Jaime Hayón's giant chess set in Trafalgar Square. It's lovely not just because of the workmanship of the man-size pieces, but because it is the festival's first public-spirited gesture in the six years it has been running.
