London hospital or how can a traditional building become smart

Even a traditional building could have a greener way to conserve energy. As an architect and eco-designer, Dr. Ken Yeang built his own company named Llewelyn Davies Yeang and took a challenge to renovate the London Hospital using his state of art approach to environmental friendly master planning. Located in the district of Camden at Great Ormond Street, this green design could attract many people and inspire them to do the same thing.
Yeang believed that he and his team haven’t built the ultimate green building like what they always dreamed of. Still keeping this dream in mind all the time, Llewelyn Davies Yeang succeeded to win the contract for the London Hospital in 2008 and had a chance to make their dream come true.
These rebuilding and refurbishment plans have developed the hospital into two new buildings. The plan has been started in October 2008 and will be completed around the winter of 2011. With the total cost raising approximately around at 300 million pounds, this is surely a big project for Llewelyn Davies Yeang.
The London Hospital which is well-known as the NHS requires Yeang to raise the bar on sustainability. As a pillar of the Camden community, the NHS must remain the same place of healing and center of medical excellence after the rebuilding and refurbishment process is complete. By monitoring the taxonomies of the site and considering the environment lifecycle, Yeang is trying to look at the ecology side of the NHS and keep it all the time in mind.
His idea including a central circulation hub which links all facilities is not only creating an easier access for people but will redirect the air flow throughout the building. Natural ventilation access will also be available in all areas while the glass extrusions across the entire facade will offer a more friendly heating process using the solar panel heating.
