A DIY electrical car to break the speed limit

Everyone has seen the new electric cars, right? They have been proven to go up to 345 miles on one charge. These cars are innovative and do a lot to help the environment. They cut down on fuel usage because they are generally run on batteries which in turn cuts down on emissions that are harmful to the environment.
Are you aware that there are now DIY electric car kits? The Daihatsu Mira EV is one of these. It gets its power from 8,320 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries. The batteries were made by Sanyo and are rated at 240.5V-294Ah. In a recent quest to see just how far you can go on one charge, 17 drivers took turns going around a track made as a training place for race car drivers located in Shimotsuma, Ibaraki. In 27.5 hours and at an average speed of 25 miles per hour, the 17 drivers made the charge last for 623.76 miles, shattering the last record set in 2009 of 345 miles…by the same make car. The first record though was set in less controlled conditions on a road between Tokyo and Osaka.
The car that just broke the record was actually a conversion that was undertaken by the Japan Electric Vehicle Club (JEVC). JEVC is a Tokyo based organization that is basically a group of people who are enthused by electric vehicles. This being said if a group of enthusiasts can do this, then what is stopping the large auto makers from building and marketing such energy efficient vehicles to the public?
Electric cars may be the thing of the future. Either from necessity or through the novelty of them, they are becoming more and more readily available as time goes by. When people start realizing just how much gas they save, they might even just sstart driving them to save on the ever high cost of gas.
