The savviest way to go green this year is get a tree planted in your friend's name. It’s easy to go about it , when you are a Facebook fan of one of the biggest multi-national companies in the world, Dell.
Dell has been working directly with the Conservation Fund for the last 3 years, to preserve and add to the Earth's depleting green cover. The Conservation Fund has been continually working with local communities to save over 6 million acres of land throughout the country, untouched. These two big names have joined hands to further their initiative on the 40th anniversary of the Earth Day, 22 April, by reaching out to Dell's Facebook fans.
Dell's Earth Day Facebook tab is your access to one of the best gifts you can give a friend, a tree planted in his or her name. You click on this link and dedicate a tree to your friend. Dell picks up your wish list and passes on a donation to the Conservation Fund to fulfill the wish. The Conservation Fund then actually plants a tree in your friend's name. All process is easy, and irrespective of your location in the world, very do-able.
If the wish list of Dell's Facebook fans spans 100,000 trees, then the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana will be home to them. Similarly, other areas have been earmarked for plantation, depending on the number of trees that are dedicated overall. All these regions, including Boeuf Wildlife Management Area and Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge, are home to many endangered wildlife species. Planting trees in such areas is equivalent to directly improving their habitat and therefore the chances of conserving them.
According to Dell, planting trees is important and necessary because they provide the ideal conditions for continuing various forms of life on earth. Filtering out the harmful gases, improving the quality of air we breathe and providing food and shelter to animal life are critical functions of trees which makes it worthwhile to join Dell's effort this Earth Day.
