Is the iPhone evolution just an evolution?

iPhones are one of the mast recognizable cell phone models that there are out there today. What happens to old iPhones? For that matter, what happens to old gadgets and electronics period? Most of the time when they become unusable the gadgets get thrown out. A few states have implemented new recycling laws that were put in place to stop this from happening. When electronics get tossed in the garbage, they go to a landfill somewhere where the chemicals used in the plastics and on the metals will eventually get into the ground water thereby carrying contaminants straight back to you.
Enter iPhone users. Most cell phone users upgrade around once every 18 months. iPhones are released around every two years. iPhone users tend to upgrade at the time when the new one is released thereby hanging on to their phone for an average of six months longer than your average cell phone user. iPhone users are increasingly brand loyal regardless of connection issues. Their phones have the latest in technology and they know it.
All that being said cell phone users do not wait until their phones are unusable before they upgrade, they do it because they get tired of their phones and want new ones. In a time of trying to be as green as we can this is not helping. This is actually adding to the problem. Yes, cell phones can be refurbished and resold, but not all of them do. How many of them go in to the garbage? How many of them sit in a drawer somewhere? At least iPhone users, while not waiting until their phones die to upgrade, do wait until the next ones come out first. Maybe this is something that we should all be doing.
