Scientists from the University of Cambridge have used the fact that we always have our mobile phones for use as an index of our happiness
The "EmotionSense" tech basically keeps track of daily routines using the standard smartphone tech.
Eighteen volunteers have carried around Nokia 6210 Navigator modified to 10 days earlier this year, and recorded a series of data - voice samples, the GPS location in real time, Bluetooth technology has been used to encode the subjects were close, and lists the phone as normal to users who spoke with and when. The general idea was to use the systems that have discrete states, thus influencing moods of the subjects, and technology that could easily be translated into other smartphones EmotionSense so that the systems are used as tools of psychologists in the future.
Voice recordings were compared with an existing database of reference widely used, called the Emotional Prosody Speech and Transcripts Library, which is then used to cross-ref patterns of speech with particular groups of emotions. The human subjects were also instructed to keep a diary that has followed their feelings with a series of standard questions.
The results were interesting: the emotions were related to the happiest when they were at home, but sad emotions were recorded when the subjects were in the office. Nobody likes the job so much it seems. most intense emotions have been demonstrated in the morning
Most advanced smartphone, better noise cancellation, the more precise location data, etc. may result in an improvement in this state. So do not be surprised if in the future, the hands that shrink a smartphone or instructs you to download an app specialist and asks you to carry it around for a few weeks.
Applicants must be U.S. based, but to innovate "the more remote wireless communication." Previous winners are FrontlineSMS: Credit and the MIT-based group, Sana.
