The freshwater offshore wind farm

The United States wants to be the first to have its own freshwater offshore wind farm, courtesy of GE and Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo), GE announced today.
This is' the result of a campaign for four years from The Great Lakes Energy Development Task Force, and GE will supply turbines and maintenance of a wind farm of 20 megawatts, with a long-term goal of 1,000 megawatts for the Ohio waters of the lake within the decade.

The news was given during the conference's annual WINDPOWER American Wind Energy Association in Dallas had the praise and approval of the Governor Ted Strickland. This partnership is an important step.
GE and LEEDCo are working to develop a plan that will produce wind energy offshore in the Great Lakes very profitable. If this project succeeds, the model could certainly be used in other lakes.

Obviously there are many regulatory barriers that hinder these wind farms, or rather slow down the pace of work, but not stop the project.
