A machine to protect against future tsunamis.

Today the topic Tsunami is on the agenda and raises a lot of concern.
To try to mitigate this fear is designed to create a tsunami generator that protects the city from future tsunamis. It may seem strange but this is exactly what the machine that generates the waves trying to do.
The machine, located at University College London, has been developed with the money offered by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). It is mounted in a channel of 148 meters long waves. Use an air-driven system that contains a fan and control valves that take the water in a reservoir for later release in a controlled manner. This simulates the phenomenon of tsunamis that suck the sea before crashing on the coast.
Any other uses piston wave generator to generate waves, certainly a more realistic but can not generate the wavelength of a tsunami.
Having the opportunity to access a mortgage real tsunami, the arduous task of researchers is to predict their behavior.
A first use of the machine was made to mimic the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean even though on a smaller scale. Expect only the data that will be available to the public in the next two years.
To underline the fact that all information gathered by the tsunami generator may not be able to prevent disaster, but you can at least try to ensure that cities are ready when the next tsunami will strike.
